The 2006 Literacy Test Results Are In – 73% Pass Rate

Great news for our students! This year’s new one day test format proved to be no problem for 73% of our students. This compares favourably with our score of 74% last year. Even though this number does seem low compared to other schools, we have to take into account the number of ESL students in our school.

A full 73% of our students speak little to no English at home. Our school believes that our students should have every opportunity to practice for the test, so we defer very few of our students. This shows that we are less concerned about our score, but are more concerned about making sure students are successful during their time at T.L. Kennedy.

Other highlights include:

• 92% success rate for our academic students
• 35% increase in success rate for our non-ESL students rewriting the test
• 13% increase in success rate for our ESL students rewriting the test
• A decrease in the gap between boys and girls

We have been working hard and will continue to do so. Improving the literacy skills through exemplary instruction of our students is one of the school’s ongoing goals
